Foult Update
# They stand up now
Customers were cards. They are people standing in your bar.
---
## No more cards
A customer used to be a framed panel with a portrait pasted at the top and their order
in a slab underneath. Now they walk in as a **figure** — a head on a body, in their own
species' colour — with a **speech bubble over their head** showing what they want.
They breathe, too. Each one bobs on its own phase, so a full room is alive rather than a
row of standees.
Everything that has to be *read* rather than recognised is still on the order note top
right, the moment you point at anyone.
## Two characters, drawn by hand
Our artist drew these and we put them in as drawn:
**The void pirate** finally has a body. Blue insect head, a dark red scar down one side,
brown shoulder pads — and both hands full: a bottle in one, a fistful of something red in
the other. It had been a pink-tinted random alien for months.
**Calcyn** is new. A skeleton in a hat, and in no hurry whatsoever — 1.40 patience, the
most relaxed customer in the game. They turn up from day two, and a **Tourist Wave** is
now half a liner of them.
## The jars
The supply canisters were plain glass outlines. They are steel now, with a carry handle
and a gold tray — and the contents are a *hole* in the sprite, so one jar drawing serves
all five ingredients and each one shows its own colour through it.
## Fixes
- **"Skip tips" had no text.** The button was 26px tall, which leaves a 14px box, and a
13px line needs 15.7 — so it rendered nothing at all. It has been an unlabelled grey
rectangle since the tutorial panel was slimmed down. One other button had it too.
- **The topping rail was unreadable.** White-on-dark everywhere else in the game, but
those three buttons used the dark label colour on a dark button: a contrast ratio of
1.9:1. Empty ones now say *none* in red instead of a row of `x0`.
- **The Star Oven no longer takes a counter socket.** Making it day-one kit quietly ate
two of your three slots before you had bought anything, so the second machine you ever
bought went straight to the back room.
- **The docking fee is flagged on the map**, two days out, on the planet you pay it at.
Missing it twice ends a run and the map said nothing.
- 145 lines of dead code removed — four methods nothing had called in months.
---
Short one. What confused you, what felt good, what made you stop.
